Neuroscience Interest Group (NSIG) is a student-founded and -operated society at Aga Khan University, under the patronship of Dr Syed Ather Enam. NSIG provides a platform to students by linking together the various fields of Neurosciences, from Neurosurgery to Neurology to Basic Neurosciences and everything in between. We aim to provide a stage to the medical community to discuss, research and share their neurological interests in exploring and developing a lifelong passion in the vast avenues of Neurosciences.
Mission Statement
NSIG aims to engage medical students interested in pursuing the various fields of neurosciences, in journal clubs, brainstorm sessions, and contemporary discussions on prospective careers with world renowned neuroscientists, neurologists and neurosurgeons, and participate in research projects. It will also give students an opportunity to develop lifelong mentorships with brilliant neuro-physicians, not only from Pakistan, but across the globe.
Objectives
- Provide mentorship opportunities to aspiring neurologists, neuroscientists and neurosurgeons, and allow them to pursue their career of choice
- Increase awareness of different fields of neuroscience that are not commonly understood by medical students
- Facilitate research opportunities and serve as a nidus to connect young researchers with seasoned experts in the field
- Conduct educational activities for medical professionals and students looking to pursue neuroscience
- Develop avenues for medical students across Pakistan to engage in meaningful discourse within their field of choice
Message from the Conveners
Neuroscience is an expansive field, fascinating in its complexity and function. The most important organ in the body, the brain and nervous system, remains an area of medical science that holds limitless potential. We believe that everyone who wants to study, learn and pursue their passion towards unlocking it’s mysteries deserves to do so. NSIG was created to foster this passion and nurture it, to ensure that students can realize their full potential towards becoming the neuro-physicians, neurosurgeons, and neuroscientists of tomorrow.
