This Department is dedicated to organize educational sessions like Journal Clubs, Alumni sessions and brainstorm sessions.
Recently NSIG conducted a Journal Club with Dr Ather Enam about ‘The role of microRNA in tumor invasion’. This talk was organized by the Education and Development Department in light of brain tumor awareness month. Dr Enam talked about the brain tumor burden in Pakistan and globally, and the role of MicroRNA in tumor invasion. This talk was also facilitated by other faculty, including Dr Noman Mughal, who talked about the ongoing research work on MicroRNA currently happening in AKU, and Dr Kiran Aftab, who is working as a neuroscientist, and talked about the role of Artificial Intelligence in Neuroimaging and the future of machine learning in neuroradiology.
In our talk with Dr Ali Jawaid, he discussed in-depth his recently published COVID-19 research. His paper talks about the mental health impact of COVID-9, and the paranoia associated with the disease. He also talked about the importance of pursuing research papers outside his academic interests. Dr Jawaid went on to provide valuable insight into life as a physician scientist and the decisions that go into making the switch from a clinical to an academic career path.
