Dr. Sana Syed [MBBS, ’07], inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement has partnered with Charlottesville City Schools to provide students in grades K-4 with at-home science, technology, engineering and math boxes.

“For me personally, I just wanted to be where the action was, so I was so excited that the school was proactively thinking about this,” says Dr. Syed, currently an assistant professor of pediatrics at University of Virginia. “They had a STEM team trying to raise funds and I had a platform. I wanted to use that platform and it has been really positive so far.”

Dr. Syed started a GoFundMe account to raise $30,000 to provide at-home STEM box for a total of 1,500 to 2,100 children. This will be for the entire year for all six city schools.

Her efforts have been featured in local news as well. To donate to this cause, visit the GoFundMe page.

Dr. Sana Syed is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and leads the Gut Intelligence Lab at the University of Virginia (UVA).
